I am a credit card freak and love about reading, analyzing, and finding the best ROI of a credit card. 

I use different credit cards for different purposes to save the maximum like I use Standard Chartered super value titanium credit card for fuel spends to get 5% cashback.

In this article, I have listed my favorite top 10 credit cards in India 2021 from beginner level to the super-premium category that suits your travel, online shopping, groceries, fuel, and for utility payments needs.

#1. Standard Chartered Platinum Credit Card

Standard Chartered Platinum is the best for first-time applicants because of the good approval rate. Standard Chartered Bank (SCB) looks for a stable monthly income of around Rs. 25,000 and above for approving the card.

So, if you have just started your job and have no credit history then apply for SC Platinum credit card. You can build your credit history and apply for a next-level credit card after a few months. 

You will get 5x reward points on fuel and dining expenses and 1 reward point on all other spends. 

Annual Fee – Rs. 250.

Annual Fee Waiver 

Spend Rs. 60,000 or more in the previous year. 

Welcome & Bonus Gifts 

You get a 100% one-time cashback on dining spend within 90 days of joining. That means you get back the joining fee. 


  • You earn 5x reward points per Rs. 150 spent on fine-dining and fuel
  • You get 1x rewards on other categories

#2. Standard Chartered Titanium Credit Card

Standard Chartered Super Value Titanium is a top credit card that helps you save more on your fuel, phone and utility bills. 

You can save 5% on fuel, phone and utility bills like electricity & gas through SC Super Value Titanium credit card. 

You can save up to Rs. 500 per month (Rs. 6,000 annually) even with a cap of Rs. 200 on fuel, Rs. 200 on phone bills and Rs. 100 on utility bill payments. 

Annual Fee  – Rs. 750

Annual Fee Waiver 

The annual fee gets reversed on spending Rs. 90,000 in a year.

#3. American Express Membership Rewards Credit Card 

American Express Membership Rewards is my favorite credit card. I use this credit card for adding money into my payment wallets like Paytm. 

There is a trick. Membership rewards credit card offers 1000 bonus reward points on making 4 transactions of more than Rs. 1,000 in a calendar month.

I add Rs. 1,000 for 4 times into my payment wallets and earn 1000 reward points. The reward value of 1000 reward points is approx Rs. 400.

You will also earn regular reward points, 1 reward point per Rs. 50 on all your spends except for insurance and fuel transactions.

Annual Fee 

  • First year – Rs. 1,000
  • Second year onwards – Rs. 4,500

  • 100% waiver when you spend Rs.1,50,000 and above

Amex Platinum is one of the best credit cards for travel in India. Frequent travelers can enjoy a host of complimentary lounge access and travel gift vouchers.

You get access to 4 complimentary lounges visit every year. Along with that, you can get travel vouchers of Rs. 19,300 in the first year itself on spending Rs. 4 Lakh.

ICICI Amazon Pay is a top credit card for Amazon shoppers. You can save up to 5% on every shopping on Amazon. If you shop regularly on Amazon, then you must have this credit card in your wallet. 

There is a hook. Amazon Pay is an invite-only credit card and you cannot apply directly from the ICICI website or Amazon portal. Till now, Amazon is sending invites to only existing ICICI customers. 

You will receive cashback in the form of Amazon Pay balance. 

Annual Fee – NIL


  • 5% cashback for Amazon Prime members
  • 3% cashback for non-prime customers
  • No cap on cashback, but minimum transaction – Rs. 3,000
  • 1% fuel surcharge waiver
  • 2% cashback when using as a preferred payment method
  • 1% cashback when used for all other payments

Best For – Regular Amazon shoppers who want to save up to 5%

#6. SBI Prime Credit Card

SBI Prime is a premium credit card like HDFC Regalia credit card designed for people who love to shop. You get ample of rewards like 10 reward points on dining, groceries, departmental stores and movies.

The best part is that you earn 20 reward points per Rs. 100 spent when you set up an auto-debit feature for utility bill payments. That in itself is equal to 20 points x 0.25 (value per point) = Rs. 5 or Rs. 5 / Rs. 100 = 5% cashback. 

Apart from that, you have Milestone Pizza Hut e-Voucher worth Rs. 1,000 for spends of Rs. 50,000 in a calendar quarter.

An E-Gift Voucher worth Rs. 7,000 from on annual spends of Rs. 5 Lakh.

Annual Fee – Rs. 2,999

Annual Fee Waiver 

To get a waiver you need to spend Rs. 3 Lakh in a year.

#7. Standard Chartered DigiSmart Credit Card

Standard Chartered DigiSmart credit card is a lifestyle credit card designed for spending on a few specific online portals. 

You can get up to 25% discounts when you shop for clothes (at Myntra), groceries (at Grofers), movies (at INOX), travel (on Yatra), cab rentals (with Ola), or food online (at Zomato). 

If you happen to spend on these brands for online shopping then only you should apply for the SC DigiSmart credit card. You wouldn’t get any reward points or discounts on other spends. 

Monthly Fees – Rs. 49 per month.

Monthly fee of Rs. 49 per month is both for primary and supplementary cards separately. 

Monthly Fee Waiver 

You get a monthly fee waiver when you spend Rs. 5,000 in a calendar month. This applies to both primary and supplementary cards separately. 

But the discounts and benefits are combined at the customer level. 


  • You get a 20% discount up to Rs. 700 for online purchases at Myntra 
  • 10% discount up to Rs. 1,000 per month on grocery shopping at Grofers
  • Save 10% on Zomato up to Rs. 750 per month 
  • You would get a 1+1 INOX free movie ticket up to  Rs. 200 twice a month
  • 25% discount on domestic flights and 10% on an international flight at Yatra 
  • Earn 15%cashback  with a monthly cap of Rs. 600 on Ola.

#8. HDFC Regalia Credit Card

Regalia is one of the most famous premium credit cards from HDFC Bank. Earlier, the credit card offered a lot better benefits but the current benefits do not justify its popularity.  

You can save up to 1.33% directly through reward points on your all spends. You get 4 reward points on every Rs. 150 spent and each reward point is worth 50 paise.

That means 4 x 0.50 = Rs. 2 per Rs. 150 spent or 2 / 150 x 100 = 1.33% savings.

You can save more through bonus reward points, exactly 17,500 reward points on spending Rs. 8 Lakh in a year.

You can earn reward points as under

  • Welcome benefit – 2,500 reward points
  • Spending Rs. 5 Lakh – 10,000 reward points
  • Spending Rs. 8 Lakh – additional 5000 reward points

You also get free 12 domestic and 6 international airport lounge access on HDFC Regalia credit card.

HDFC Diners Black is a super premium credit card where you can have 3.3% direct savings on all your retail spends. Really cool!

You would get 5 reward points on Rs. 150 spent having redemption value at Rs 5. So, 5 / 150 x 100 = 3.3% of savings.  

The biggest benefit is unlimited free domestic and international lounge access across the world. 

You need a minimum monthly salary of Rs 1.75 Lakh or Rs. 21 Lakh of ITR to get an approval of Diners Black credit card. 

Annual Fee – Rs. 10,000 

Annual Fee Waiver 

You need to spend Rs. 5 Lakh to get annual fees waived off. 

Welcome & Bonus Gifts

10,000 reward points as welcome gifts and 20,000 on spending Rs. 7.5 Lakh in a year.

Annual Fee of Rs 2,499 

You get a renewal benefit of 7,500 reward points each year on renewing your card membership.
